What is a Value Creation Plan?
A value creation plan (VCP) is the PE firm’s roadmap for how it will increase the value of a company after acquiring it. Unlike passive investors who buy and hope, PE firms are active owners who drive specific operational, financial, and strategic initiatives to grow EBITDA and position the company for a higher exit valuation. The VCP translates the investment thesis into concrete actions with timelines, owners, and measurable targets.
The 100-day plan is the critical first phase — it covers the immediate post-close period where the firm stabilizes the business, retains key management, captures quick wins, and launches the top value creation initiatives. Most PE professionals consider the first 100 days as the period that sets the trajectory for the entire hold.
