What is DD Meeting Preparation?

During a due diligence process, the deal team conducts a series of meetings and calls — management presentations, expert network calls, customer reference calls, site visits, and advisor check-ins. Each meeting is a limited window to gather critical information. Arriving unprepared wastes that window. Good meeting prep means knowing what you need to learn, having prioritized questions ready, and understanding the benchmarks and red flags to probe. Expert network calls (via firms like GLG, AlphaSights, or Guidepoint) connect investors with industry specialists who can validate market assumptions. Customer reference calls test whether the company’s value proposition is real and sticky. Management presentations are the most comprehensive, covering the full business.

Supported Meeting Types

  • Management presentation — full business overview with revenue, competitive, and financial deep-dive questions
  • Expert network call — market positioning, secular trends, competitor assessment, and investor risks
  • Customer reference call — selection rationale, satisfaction, renewal intent, and price sensitivity
  • Site visit — operational walk-through and facility assessment
  • Advisor check-in — advisor perspective on deal and process

What It Produces

A one-page meeting prep document with:
  1. Meeting logistics — who, when, where, duration
  2. Objectives — top 3 things you need to learn
  3. Question list — prioritized, grouped by topic (starred must-asks)
  4. Benchmarks — key numbers to reference
  5. Red flags — specific items to probe based on known concerns
  6. Follow-up items — what to request after the meeting
Keep the question list to 15-20 items maximum. You will not get through more in a 60-90 minute session. Star the must-asks so you always hit the highest-priority questions.

How to Customize

Edit the dd-meeting-prep skill to add your firm’s standard question bank, adjust meeting type templates, or include firm-specific benchmarks. See the DD Meeting Prep skill for the full question bank by meeting type and red flag framework.
